David J. Porter is the Republican nominee for the Texas Railroad Commission and is a successful small business owner from Midland, Texas. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has worked with oil and gas producers for nearly three decades providing accounting, financial and tax council. He has a three decade-long record of pro-business, free market, conservative credentials.
David built his CPA practice in Midland focused on providing accounting and tax services to oil and gas producers, royalty owners, oil field service companies and other small businesses and individuals. As part of his practice, he assisted numerous Republican candidates and conservative causes with campaign finance disclosure and tax compliance.
David was born at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1956 while his dad was serving in the U.S. Army. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harding University in May of 1977 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. He passed the CPA exam on his first attempt in November of 1977 and became a Texas CPA in September 1981, the same year he moved to Midland. In July of 1985, Mr. Porter left the CPA firm in which he was a partner and started his own firm, David J. Porter PC, which he still operates today.
David served as an elected director of the Midland County Hospital District from 1989-1991.
Porter has been active in conservative and Republican circles since being an officer in Young Americans for Freedom and a member of College Republicans while at Harding. He has worked as a volunteer in numerous campaigns at all levels from national to state and local. He has served as a delegate at several county and state Republican conventions, as well as Precinct Chairman in Midland and Lee Counties.
David's past activities included serving as a Deacon of Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland, an officer of Midland Jaycees, an officer of District 44 Toastmasters, Leadership Midland, Junior Achievement and Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility.
David met his wife Cheryl at Harding University and they married in 1979. She is a registered and licensed dietitian who was appointed to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians by Governor Bill Clements and the Texas Diabetes Council by Governor George W. Bush. They are the proud parents of Jennifer Porter Brown. She has her husband Ryan had their first child in 2009.
The Porters now reside in rural Lee County between Giddings and Dime Box on land they purchased in 2004. |
