An exciting news day for my campaign: the Texas Association of Businesses (TAB) as well as the C Club of Houston have endorsed my candidacy for Texas Railroad Commissioner.

Republican candidate David Porter brought his campaign for Texas Railroad Commissioner to East Texas on Tuesday, telling supporters in Longview, Kilgore and Tyler he wants to protect Texas from the federal government's growing influence.  "It's going to take some effort because they really want to take it over," he said.

Porter is a certified public accountant now living in Giddings, but he counts his and his wife's nearly 30 years in Midland working with oil producers as experience for the railroad commission. 

In the eleven weeks since an underwater pipeline ruptured, spilling massive quantities of oil into the gulf, pressure has mounted on the Washington politicians to “do something” about it. Unfortunately, their impotent response has contributed little to the two most pressing needs: stopping the leak, and protecting our shores and gulf waters from an environmental and economic disaster.

"David knows first-hand the challenges that producers face from overregulation and taxes. And he knows that now more than ever, we need to encourage exploration here in Texas among Texas producers, large and small, so they can keep Texas energy strong.

David leads his opponent by 12 points in a poll conducted by the Texas Tribune and the University of Texas.
